It serves the function of a natural root. It can support teeth, ceramic bridge and dentures and gives better stability.

• It avoids alteration and overloading of the adjacent natural teeth that is otherwise occurring with conventional means of replacing teeth with bridges.
• It gives superior aesthetic results
Indications for Dental Implants:
A) Repalce a missing tooth:-
A missing tooth can be replaced with the help of an implant and a crown over it. Since it is supported by itself unlike a ceramic bridge, adjacent teeth need not be altered for gaining support for a replacement.
B) Replacement of multiple teeth:-
Multiple missing teeth can be replaced with the help of two implant at the two far ends and a bridge connecting them. Here also adjacent teeth need not be altered for gaining support for a replacement.
C) Full mouth rehabilitation using Dental Implants:-
For a mouth with no teeth or with a few teeth that are grossly destructed or mobile can be replaced with implants and ceramic bridges. Advantage over a normal denture is that the implant supported bridges are permanently fixed, rigid and stable.
D) Implant supported over dentures:-
It is a solution if a denture is not stable or if a person wants a rigid fixed denture. A denture is attached to a few implant s which is implanted into the gums and bone. {in Full mouth rehabilitation using implants more number of implants must be used.
E)Treating an unstable loose denture:
Implant’s advantage over a normal denture is that the implant supported bridges are permanently fixed, rigid and stable.Any denture that is unstable and loose can be made stable and tightly fitted with the help of dental implants.Mostly the same denture can be used if the denture is in good function.
F) Immediate Loading Implants:-
Other than conventional implants immediate implants can be loaded with crowns or bridges or over dentures without waiting for a lag period of four to six months.
Indications
– Widely used in front teeth replacement.
– Temporary solution till the conventional implants merges with the teeth.
– In emergency cases where patient can’t wait for six months.
Procedure :
The site of the implants is predetermined and under local anesthesia Implants are placed in the mouth. The patient is under antibiotics and returns for a check up on the following day. A removable prefabricated denture if necessary can be give as a temporary solution. Patient has to wait for four to six months for the bone to merge with the implant. Then on the next appointment the impressions are made and a ceramic crown / bridge / over dentures according to cases can be fabricated. After two days they are fixed in the mouth. Minor adjustments if necessary can be made on the same or following days
Ist Visit- two appointments over a period of three days [excluding the discussion]
IInd Visit- two or three appointments over a period of three to five days.
