RESTORATIONS:
These are done either to eliminate defects due to dental caries, erosions, fracture of teeth etc. All defects are cleaned and made infection free. Then the defect is restored back to the original tooth shape, structure and function.A restoration or filling is a completely painless procedure and a local anaesthesia is given if required to eliminate pain.A temporary or interim restoration is given if there is there is infected enamel or dentine in tooth.Later a permanant restoration is given.Arestoration or filling is a completely painless procedure and a local anaesthesia is given if required, to eliminate pain and apprehension.
Types of restorations:-
A) DIRECT RESTORATION:
These are fillings are done in the same appointment itself using composite bonding(tooth coloured fillings) directly into the teeth.
B) INLAYS / ONLAYS:
These are indirect restorations where the cavity is prepared and the impression of the cavity is taken in the first appointment. A ceramic or metal inlays / onlays are made in the lab, that fits into the prepared cavities. In the next visit the dentist fixes the ceramic or metal inlays / onlays in the patient’s teeth. These are indicated in larger cavities and grossly damaged teeth where a direct filling will not be strong and durable.
